Pensita
An iPhone unlocks, Pensita is tapped in the dock, and it opens already recording over a moving camera view: listening, the words of an idea appearing as they’re spoken, a photo being taken, and a sketch being drawn on the view and saved. Then Review shows the day’s three sessions; the evening one plays back with each word lit as it’s spoken and its two speakers named. It’s exported to Obsidian as a Markdown note, and automatic Markdown backup is switched on in Settings.

Questions

Privacy and offline

Does anything get uploaded?

No. Pensita has no account, no server and no network code. Transcription and speaker identification run on your iPhone. Files leave only when you export them to a place you pick — which might be iCloud Drive, if that’s where your vault lives.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The first time, iOS may download its speech model; after that, transcription works in airplane mode.

Where are my notes stored?

On your iPhone, in Pensita’s folder, which you can browse in the Files app under On My iPhone > Pensita. Exports and backups go to the folders you choose.

Is it always listening?

Only while it’s open on the camera. Leave the app and the session ends; open it again and a new one starts.

Recording etiquette

Can I start with audio only?

Yes. Turn off “Start video when the app opens” in Settings and Pensita opens recording audio; tap the record button when you want video.

Can it skip keeping the audio?

Turn off “Save audio recordings.” Everything said is still transcribed and saved, but the sound itself isn’t kept. Saved videos always keep their sound.

What about recording other people?

Pensita records what the microphone hears, like any recorder. The rules on recording conversations vary by place, so tell people when you’re recording them.

Can I throw away a video I didn’t mean to take?

Tap the cross. The clip is discarded and what was said stays in the transcript.

Exports and sync

How do I set up Obsidian?

Choose Obsidian from any export menu and pick your vault folder once (iCloud Drive > Obsidian > your vault, or On My iPhone > Obsidian). After that, exports and backups go straight there.

Why don’t videos come along when I copy to Apple Notes?

Apple doesn’t let apps paste video or audio into a note. Share to Apple Notes instead and they arrive as attachments.

Does it sync between my iPhone and iPad?

No, there’s no Pensita cloud. If your backup folder is in iCloud Drive, the Markdown files are there on every device.

What’s in the website export?

A folder (or a zip) with index.html, your media, and small data files. Double-click index.html on a Mac: search, filters, a gallery, playback with highlighted words. Original videos play in Safari; choose MP4 in Settings for every browser.

Platform and price

Which languages does it transcribe?

Your iPhone’s language, when Apple offers on-device transcription for it. Otherwise, US English.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone, iPhone Duo and iPad, on iOS 26 or later.

Is there a Mac or Android version?

No. The website export opens on a Mac, though.

Is it really $4.99, once?

Yes. No subscription, no in-app purchases, and one purchase covers your iPhone and iPad.
